Aw that is lovely Micki that you are still in touch with a few of the pups!! The breeder of Loki never acknowledged any of the pics I would send of Loki - especially after learning that Loki took fits!! Then she stopped breeding but heard not that long ago that she was trying to start over again!! I would ban her!! But that is another story!!
I got Loki neutred as I had no intention of breeding, nor would I have once I discovered she had epilepsy!! Again, that's another story!!

The breeder of my boys I have known for over 25 years and was my friend long before I got the two boys from her and we are in regular touch. The breeder of Faun my dachie also bred my Bridie and I have known her for 14 years and she has now become a friend so I have been lucky. bit I researched my breeds and my breeders thoroughily before deciding on a breed and a breeder and fortunastely this has paid off.

I agree with you Sharon!! Such a shame to do that to a beautiful breed of dog!! I am surprised at the authorities of both police and MOD don't try to do something about it as the GSDs, the way they look, won't be much good as police/MOD dogs!!
That is nice to hear that you are still in touch with the breeders of your lovely dogs, Eunice. As I said in a response, I haven't heard from mine since they were told about Loki's epilepsy!! I think I told you that though.

I agree Sharon and Becky That's a good thought Rose. Do you know you don't realise how bad it's got until you see the before and after pics do you? It's shocking what they have done and a wicked shame..

It certainly is, Lyn. I can't see anything nice in the way they look now. Whoever would want one looking like that!!

That's what I can't understand Rose. Do the people who breed them actually think they look better like that . It's almost as though they want their animals to look like a 'cartoon' with everything over exaggerated. There is a GSD in the village nearest to us and I used to think there was something wrong with it. I realise now it is exactly like the 'crouching' ones in the photo.

I can't understand why they win prizes for them!! It is cruelty beyond belief!!

Similar things seem to be happening to lots of the breeds though. This is an extreme case though! When you see a modern Shepard in the ring it walks really strangely and looks all wrong too...well I think (but I'm not a dog breeder so what do I know ) I do think there is a really easy way for the kennel club to stop, and even reverse, this problem in all the breeds that are effected, slowly change the breed standard back the way it was! Surely if dogs that showed such extremes didn't win they wouldn't be bred from and the shapes would go back. I think that's where all the issues come from. If you are trying to breed something to a list of written characteristics then if you don't set a maximum, and just say things like massive head (I think that's what the bulldog one has and that's why they can't give birth naturally etc...look at old photos of that breed for another shocking changes!) The problem is unless someone takes responsibility for changing the system that we have now nothing will change (in fact I expect they'll get worse) I don't think also you can blame a breeder too much (though they do breed in some mad ways, daughter-father, mother-son breeding can't be healthy!), if they don't produce winners they won't get a good set of homes for puppies bred, so it has to come from the breed standards. Sorry rant over I just feel very passionate about this, I know so many people with 'well bred' dogs and they all have problems that are according to the vets well known to the breed! Mind you I got a 'who knows what' and he has a sensitive little tummy ;D

I do agreee with you Shadowsmum. I wonder if the judges should have an eye kept on them to make sure they are putting the right dogs in the right order.
