Aw Eunice I did not say we should not have the KC - what I said was that they should not allow Dog Breeder Clubs to alter the shape of those love GSDs in such a way that they look deformed. Perhaps if the KC didn't allow them to enter competitions/shows, then the Breeding Clubs will have to go back to the drawing board and start again!! To allow the dogs to be shown - and I am talking about those GSDs in particular - then they are condoning the actions by the Breeders clubs.
I have nothing against the KC but I can't understand why they should allow dogs to be genetically altered, or whatever it is called, in such a way that they looked deformed.
That's my opinion.
Take care and hope you are hail and hearty:)

Rose I am sorry but you are reading my post wrong I did not say you said we should not have the KC I was only trying to show that if we don't have them we could get much worse, and to explain that they can only advise the breed clubs they cannot lay down the law as they have no jurisdiction to do this and i this is not an opinion it is a fact and the point is that sadly at present they don't ,so they can only advise. For those like yourself who feel so strongly that the KC should not allow the GSD and other breeds you feel are deformed , tyo be shown then you should all write to the KC to show your disdain and see what replies you get. It may not do any good, but it will certainly not do any harm.
I also fee lthat to say in one breath you have nothing against the KC and in the other that in you opinion they should not be allowing the GSD toand other such breeds to enter shows and that UTE's are not recognised for no reason, is a bit of a contradiction. I am sorry if this offends but I am sure we are both adult enough and wise enough to know that there are times when we just have to agree to disagree.
We may not awlways agree but at the end of the day we still have in common that we love ourdogs and our other animals and birds etc. and want what is best for them

I have to agree with Rose on this one. Yes we do need a kennel club not only for registrations etc but as it is the only 'club' that recognises the standards they should have some sway in what those standards should be. If they have the power to accept certain dogs, or otherwise, then they should use the same powers to keep breeding standards to at least a humane basic. They may only be able to 'advise' but I do know that they also have a lot of influence by the way they put the 'advice' across.

Can you tell tell us then how you sugeest the KC goabout using this powe rand influence tthat you say they have to bring what you want done into being. It would be interesting to know how you think this could be achieved.

By imposing new and humane standards to any breed that is breeding an exaggeration of the original standards.

How do you propose the KC impose these standards ?

Eunice, first I must make this very clear as I can see you are very passionate about your beliefs regarding the KC (which may not be everybodys) that I am certainly not trying to ruffle feathers. Nor do I claim to be an expert on how these organisations work and to be honest I really don't care. What I can see is a beautiful breed being bred 'wrong' If the KC are unable to impose new standards to help prevent 'bad 'breeding then a law should be passed that they can. If this is still impossible then there should be a government law to stop it because to put it simply and without any political slant, dogs should not be bred for show by exaggerating characteristics when it is detrimental to it's health. To me it is a black and white issue and regardless of how wheels within wheels work this bad breeding practice should be stopped before we no longer have a GSD we can recognise.

Yes think the KC are necessary but they have their faults and I am not so passionate about them that I can't see this. but Ijust wonder if we would be worse off wethout them and whilst I agree that there is room for improvement I just can't see how this will come about on the one hand you say you want it to happen but on the other hand you say you don't care how the organisations work sand this seems to be where all good intentions fall down, If we don't really know or care how ithe KC works , then how can we sort it That is the point I have been trying to get accross and which seems to have been being missed.
It would be great if a law could be passed by the government in this respect, but they can't even get the Dangerous Dog Act applied properly so I just can't see them being successful in this perhaps a petition should be sent to the Government, bu tas has happened with the petitions I have signed so far you get a polite e mail back saying this had been noted and then a good few months down the line an email to say the petition has not been successful, It is a sad fact that dogs and animals arer so far down the line in the Governments ro do list.

ive read the recent posts and it seems my subject has really got us talking which is great.. we all have opinions but how can opinion change things? we all love dogs and want to see them healthy so how do we achieve this? i agree with having the KC to monitor things like good breeding but developing a GSD that looks like it can hardly walk isn't in the interest of the dogs. now i own a KC reg GSD and a registered racing Greyhound.. i also own 2 NI which aren't a registered breed within the KC.. now theres arguments on both sides ere.. i couldn't register my GSD pups if i breed my bitch to young so this is a good thing but i know many NI who are "registered" with their clubs which are bred from under age bitches... the clubs of these dogs are not well governed if governed at all. its more about "if ur face fits" lots of breeders breeding unhealthy stock, suffering from all kinds of defects and illness... in this case having Utes and NI recognised would take a lot of power from these clubs in terms of taking over the registrations of litters etc. in that case the KC would benefit the breed. maybe the KC could liaise with parliament and animal welfare groups to have some legislation passed on what stock to breed from in order to keep the breeds healthy.. its a tough one and us "men in the street" perhaps know what we'd like but wouldn't know the correct channels to go down.. also do we have to power to change things? anyway we all have opinions but lets not forget we are all united in our love for dogs and animals and their ongoing welfare.

It certainly has got us talking and thanks again for posting this.
As you say it is a tough one and I agree most of us weould not know the right channels to take and probably would not have the power to get these changes brought into being and this was the point I was trying to get through, so thank you for that.

I do agree, Micki. I have never had KC registered dogs. I was on one forum, when one of the breeds was breeding her puppies! Very sad..

my GSD is KC registered and im happy about that.. if i was gonna breed from her her puppies would be registered as well.. also i know her family history.. my NI's have got "papers" (for wot they're worth) but to be honest the history of the breed is so messed up and i know lots of papers are wrong with imaginary dogs appearing on them from nowhere.. so in cases like that i think KC reg would be good.

I will never breed as I am one of those people who believe that when you breed any puppies born are the responsibilityy of the breeder for the rest of their lives and if things don't work out to have any pup or puppies who are in this position back. Borzois as you know are a very large breed and I just do not have the space to do this should it become necessary so I feel it would be irresponsible of me to even consider breeding a litter. Ialso believe that no one should breed a litter unless they are breeding to improve the breed and have an oustanding example of the breed to do so. My dogs are all registered with the Kennel Club, and I can trace their history and any pups born would be registered with the Kennel Club but for the reasons I have stated I will never breed a litter
