I was watching TV tonight and was shocked at Growth Hormone being used on dairy cattle in the U.S and the health risks to Humans. it said it was banned in the UK but theres no ban on products made from U.S products containing this hormone. In the U.S items are clearly labeled if they are made from cattle free of this Hormone which i think is worth noting for any U.S members. It really did worry me. Heres a link. www.preventcancer.com/consumers/general/milk.htm

Scary and hope the bi-products don't get into UK. Glad that Britain has a ban on it. Interfering with nature can't be good.
Many thanks, Micki, for the info.
That should be banned completely!

That is very scary, I was glad to read that Canada bans that hormone too. When we buy beef we buy from a special farm that doesn't use hormones or drugs either.

Becky eats a lot of U.S beef and i must admit its very nice but it might be worth looking at the labels. not all U.S cattle is given this Hormone but for anyone living in the U.S its worth noting.

Oh when I buy any meat at all, including mince, I buy Scottish beef - it's the best, especially Aberdeen Angus!

On the whole I'm glad I'm a vegetarian. As well as the ethical issues I am also please to be exempt from inflicting my body with what so many intensively reared livestock are subject to. When we are told that cattle medication comes through in the milk that is very worrying indeed.. I could happily go without milk, I only have it in tea and coffee and lemon or black would suit me as well. Reading/watching reports like this makes me very cautious and also very cross that 'the powers that be' allow this to happen.

Good for you and it doesn't surprise me that you feel better for it. As you know I have been a veggie for all my adult life (that's an awful long time ) and have never missed meat for a single day. Reading and watching reports like this make it a whole lot easier for wanna-be veggies. Perhaps I'll buy a goat again, I used to love goats milk when I had Bluebell and Buttercup. Kept my hands warm on chilly winter mornings too
