I don't know how I feel about this one - I am putting it out there for comment.
COEUR D'ALENE -- Eileen Jensen, the North Idaho woman charged with vehicular homicide for her daughter's death, is now addressing questions about her actions and the new charges she's facing.
Investigators say Jensen, 24, was driving recklessly when she rear-ended another car in March of 2006. Her three-month-old daughter Chloe was in the front seat and later died from injuries she received in the collision.
Eileen said Friday morning she was surprised she had been charged with vehicular homicide.
At the time of the collision Chloe was strapped in her car seat, in the front seat, which is something police say a parent should never do. When the air bag deployed it had so much force it fractured the toddler's skull. Chloe died 10 months later.
But Eileen said she was never told putting her baby in the front seat could be deadly, adding that she often put Chloe in the front seat to watch her breathing as she was born premature with lung problems.
Authorities added that the baby seat was improperly installed and that it was propped up on a stack of textbooks; Eileen claimed that was not true.
Eileen will be making a court appearance later this month on the vehicular homicide charge but in an e-mail Friday morning she says she's had punishment enough with the loss of her daughter.
"I hope and pray that judgment will not be passed on me. There's no doubt that I made a mistake but I'm the one that will suffer with it I lost my sweet baby girl. I had to go through the pain of seeing her take her last breath and that's punishment I will have for the rest of my life," she wrote.
Jensen's next court date is set for February 18th.
