Disgraceful ! How on earth can anyone believe that the way the GSD looks now, from the way it did, is of championship breed!! Who on earth makes these rules up that GSDs should look like that. The poor dogs look deformed!! That programme that was on a few months ago that spoke out against the KC showed the GSD and that was what they looked like - deformed. The dogs couldn't stand properly!! I think it is time for the Animal Welfare people to step in and ban those idiots who say that that is what the GSDs should look like.
Oh it makes me so angry!!
Excellent post, Micki, and thank you for sharing it.

Agree the breed has really gone down hill. My friend came out of this breed for precuisely this reason. It is so sad . Don't really think the animal welfare people will get involved Rose, sorry. I think it is up to the breed clubs to give themselves a shake and wake up to what they are doing to this lovely breed.
Thankfully they are not all like that Rose and there are still some breeders are getting it right. You just have to look at "H's pictures of her pup Rose on the other forum to see a good example and also M with the Collies and GSD's.
Thanks for posting this Micki

Oh I know all the GSDs don't look like that, Eunice, I just have to look at Taylor, Karen's beautiful GSD. However, someone, somewhere must take responsibility for saying that those GSDs who enter shows, should look like that. There is nothing nice about the look of them in those pics and yet, they won first prizes in some instances!!
Surely, the Kennel Club, or RSPCA (useless twerps they are) should step in and say no - that is not right. Perhaps if the KC said no they were not accepting the dogs looking like that, then things may change!! Who is it that sets the standards/looks etc of the breed anyway? And, if the breed has been altered to suit the GSD breed club, surely the KC could have a voice and say no!!
That is my opinion of it anyway:)

Who on Earth thinks that dogs bred today look better with deformed hind legs that the majestic dogs from the past. Why do the kennel club turn themselves into a complete joke

Rose As I said the onus is on the Breed Clubs to get something done. The RSPCA will do nothing because for all the spouting off of the head vet they don't take to do with this they only handle or are supposed to handle real cases of cruelty and unless there is a camera posed ready to get them more publicity so they can rake in more donations which is spent mainly on admin and to boost the egos of the high heid yins they don't even do this as we well know. . Aand as I say a waste of a donation fas the money should be going toward doing something for the dogs abnd not being used to cover admin. The KC is only the governing body and can only advise the breed clubs it cannot force them. In an ideal world it would be nice if the KC could do this but unfortunately this isd far from an ideal world.

I don't understand, nor agree with ''showing'' dogs. I prefer to keep my dogs, as a pet not make them stance, that's why they call them frogs. No offence to anyone who does show their dogs, but I really think this is shocking: I prefer the normal dogs, without the slop.

It is shocking Karen i have to agree but not everyone who shows their dog wants them to look like that i can assure you. I love to show mani just for fun and get great pleasure when he wins rosettes though hes my winner whatever. I can assure you mani is a pet still whether i show him or not.

i dont show my dogs either Karen but i do know people get great joy from it as im sure the dogs do as well, its just not something i enjoy doin and i have been to ringcraft.. i just didnt like some stranger deciding whether my dog was a good example or not coz in my mind my dog (whichever one im with) is 2nd to none. the thing that gets me is how can these dogs perform a natural function like run and jump with back legs like that? im happy to say that my GSD isnt deformed like that either.

Then, Eunice, the Kennel Club should not recognise those dogs from the GSD Breeders clubs who want dogs to look like that!! The onus may be on the respective clubs but at the end of the day, the KC should stand up and be counted and say no that they are not accepting dogs who look like the way they are!! Heavens, they won't allow the Utes in for no real apparent reason!!
I think it is time for a shake up somewhere!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't GSD suffer with hip problems BEFORE idiots like this start to mess with such a beautiful breed? why on earth would they do this? it looks awful and cannot be good for the dog either?

Yes, Lisa, they do suffer from that. A friend of mine's GSD went thru a big op a couple of years ago to fix that and then had to take it for Hydrotherapy treatment for nearly a year!! Time some governing body was set up to stop things like that happening. They are taking it too far. Poor dogs!!

Heavens, they won't allow the Utes in for no real apparent reason!! I think it is time for a shake up somewhere!! Well unfortunately Rose it just does not work this wayand It would take me too long to go into detail to try to esplain it all so we shall just have to agree to disagree on this as far as the KC is concerned. If we did not have the KC what would we have but a load of Rergistries like the one's being ccreated by the designer dog breeders and BYB's and though the KC is not the greatest it is a lot better than these so called registries which mean didly squat. Things are changing in some breeds albeit slowly , but Rome was not built ina day and it will take time. There are good reasons why some breeds have not been recognised by the KC, and it is not for no apparent reason. ....................................... Yes unfortunately they have ruined the GSD's but not all show dogs look like this and a lot of them , like my breed could still to the job they were bred to do. Some dogs believe it or not actually enjoy being shown. Mine do and I assure you that if they did not then I would not be putting them in the ring. Also it would ne a waste of tiem because if they were not happy the woudl have no ring presence and would never win . I show for enjoyment and for the social side of it and if I win it's a bonus, but win or lose I still bring the tweo best dogs home with me So for all of you who are against showing that is your perogative, but if it were me would not knock it till I have tried it..
