South Africa are bringing in Elephant culling. they say they are allowing it to control their numbers. This maybe so but Elephant are my Fav animal in the world. i have a herd of them myself, (ornaments). i just cant believe or agree with killing these amazing noble animals.

That is absolutely horrendous! Who do these people think they are to cull those beautiful animals. I think it is time to cull the humans behind such culls. I love elephants and although they are big they are gentle. Countries that do that should have sanctions made against them.
I wonder if there are any petitions against it? Greenpeace, or animal activists usually bring out petitions.

I did a Google search, Micki, and here is a link and there is a petition on it, if anyone would like to sign it, I did and put a few comments onto it as well, as requested!
Take care.

thanx Rose, i dont fly but id gladly put myself in harms way and travel with any group who were willing to go out there to try to stop it... shoot the Elephant, but shoot me 1st. i feel so strongly when it comes to Elephant, i love all animals but for some reason i have a special love for Elephants. these are highly complex animals who live in family units and feel a whole range of emotions including grief and mourning their dead. therefore isnt it obvious the fear they will feel seein their family herds shot dead.... the same as we would. THIS CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN.

My link didn't come up! I think I know why - I did a quick response and put it on that but never came up! Sorry - here it is again. I signed the petition, which is at the bottom of that page. www.bornfree.org.uk/campaigns/elephants/campaign-action/elephant-cull/Hope it works this time! Elephants have a long memory. I remember my Dad telling me of an elephant - a man was tormenting one by offering it food then throwing it away. Not sure how long after that happened, the same man was back and the elephant remembered him and wrapped its trunk round the man and threw him away! Don't know how true that is but elephants do have great memories. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1285532.stmI would stand beside you Micki with a gun pointing it those who want to shoot them!

ive signed it Rose.. below is a bit taken from the page and backs up everything ive said.
The killing of elephants, whether individuals or family groups, causes deep distress to these highly intelligent animals. No matter how carefully and quickly carried out, culling will ultimately result in panic as elephants watch their families systematically killed in front of them. Even elephants some distance away from the site of the culling will be able to detect the distress calls. For those elephants not culled, the suffering and distress may have lasting effects.

I wish that those elephants would charge those who are doing it! It is awful and I do wish that governments of other countries could do something by bringing out sanctions or something against them.
It is disturbing that they haven't taken all that into account. Cruelty at its worst!
Hope a lot of people will see that site and sign the petition. I hate culls and I don't think man has the right to carry out such atrocities against any animal, especially those lovely elephants.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL. Elephant's are highly intelligent and will be distressed beyond belief if this goes ahead. Not enough people know about it. This needs to be prominent on the news and GMTV and such like. The more people who know about it the more chance there will be of fighting it. I think one of the Coronation Street (Gail in the soap) has a lot to do with elephants and is passionate about them and their welfare. I wonder if it can be bought to her notice. WE HAVE GOT TO DO SOMETHING

I hope she is aware of it. Hope too that she signed that petition! The more people signing to it the better! Mind you, I often wonder if the petitions ever do any good, except bring it to the attention of the government of how people feel about it.
I don't think it is being advertised enough either. What gets me is that the National Press and the Media don't say a word!
You are right, Lyn, everyone must do something - but what can we do! Just to sign that petition.
I hate the idea of any animals being culled but see red at the though of the elephants.
