I saw this in the paper yester day. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1152466/One-armed-presenter-scaring-children-parents-tell-BBC.htmlPeople are making complaints to the about BBC hiring a lady with one arm, to present the bedtime hour on CBBC chanel. Claiming that it scares the kids. What do you think about it? Personally i think it's rediculous, what harm does it do children to be exposed to people who aren't "perfect" ? If i had seen someone with only one arm as a young child my mum would have just explained in a way i could understand why they looked different and that it was nothing to be scared or worry about! If you ban your child from watching the telly beasue there's a person with a missing limb, what on earth will happen if or hen they meet someone with a physical disablity face to face? What if they start school and theres a boy with one leg, are there children all going to cower in a corner in fear? Are the parents going to say the Boy has to have lessons in private? this quote made me laugh, 'What is scary is the BBC's determination to show "minorities" on CBeebies at every available opportunity!' - Why shouldn't they? It's called preparing children for the world outside your cotton wool house. I just think it's silly that in this day and age that such an uproar can be created over somthing so harmless.

Good post, Joey. Just shows how small minded and petty some folk are. Why can't they teach their children that some people were born with a limb missing? I remember when I was young the Thalidomide children born with no limbs, others with part limbs and my Mum explained it to me. I wonder if they would be of the same mind had one of their children had been born minus a limb, or part of a limb, how would they feel. That poor presenter must feel it when reading things like that. I just hope the BBC don't drop her, or move her because of it. Where's the equality!!
I pity those children whose parents feel like that.
I agree with everything you have said.
Many thanks for sharing that article.

OMG how could those parents be prejudicial, how would they feel if it was their daughter with a missing limb !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Others claimed that they were forced to discuss difficult issues with their young children before they were ready.
Isnt that a good thing, if they start to understand it would help to stop the pointing, and hurtful comments.
Children understand a lot more nowdays, and mature quicker, because of todays life styles

Ben watches her and is not scared at all as does courtney. I thought when i saw her what a wonderful thing it was that she got the job as it teaches children not to be scared of things like that and shows them that some people are a lil different. I would think it does the children much more good than harm. I am totally shocked anyone would feel differently. Perhaps had the people who made these complaints grown up with a variety of people on the tv screens they would not be so predjudice.

Aw I think thats terrible - just because she has one limb missing doesn't mean that it scares most children - yes, she does look different but it doesn't make her look scary

No I'm sorry but I can't believe that kids are scared of this presenter because of her disability. Kids are very accepting and maybe sometimes a little outspoken about disabilities......but scared This has all come about because of the parents attitudes and is absolutely appalling.

I totally agree sharon! Bens watching her now on cbeebies i just asked him what he thought to the lady on the tv to which he replied " I like her mummy" I think its appalling people are trying to make something out of it thats not there. Like you say sharon kids can be outspoken but i really doubt any would be scared.

if they had hired a murderer THAT would be scarey, but i have a disability too (you can't see it but if you get to now me you can tell theres something different) and i don't see why anyone should be afraid, if everything in the world was perfect then we'd all be the same and the world would be very very dull.
