A baby has been mauled to death by his Grandmother's two dogs - one a Staffie and the other a Jack Russell. How sad but where on earth was the grandmother when that happened? Sure she would not have left the baby in the same room as the dogs unattended! Here is the link. uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090208/tuk-dogs-killed-baby-police-confirm-6323e80.htmlSo sad. The dogs probably thought the baby was a toy!! Shame for the dogs as well. Rest in Peace little one.

I saw this in the paper this morning then heard it on the news, its awful. That poor lil baby. I know you shouldn't point the finger but where was the grandmother and how could this be allowed to happen. I love my dogs but the kids come first and you have to always be so careful. My 2 dogs adore the kids but even so i don't trust them once you trust any dog 100% with a baby or young child you ask for trouble. Such a sad thing to happen my heart goes out to the family of poor lil Jaden, RIP Jaden.
When will people learn....

The baby was left with the Grandmother so I take it the baby was left for a wee bit whilst the Grandmother did something else. The dogs may have been spooked if the baby was moving, or whimpering, or crying and perhaps thought the baby was a toy.
The Grandmother will have to live with that for the rest of her life. So sad and could have been avoided by using commonsense !!

She does have to live with that for the rest of her life and for that i do really feel for the woman. People need to learn though and not trust dogs around lil babies. of course i always introduced my own dogs to my kids as babies but i did so carefully and gradually. I think a dog who is not used to a babies cry could easily get freaked by it. Its such a sad thing to have happened....

You were being a responsible Mum, Becky. I feel for the Grandmother but there have been cases in the past that were exactly the same whereby babies and todlers were left in the company of dogs and, sadly, the dogs turned of the babies and todlers. Will people never learn!! As you rightly said, such a sad thing to have happened.

Very tragic and my heart goes out to the family.
I do wonder just how many cases we will see though beofre people finally get the message that dogs should not be left alone with babies.

That just about hits the nail right on the head. Dogs hunt, dogs suffer from jealousy, whichever reason set the dogs off they were just being dogs. It doesn't take away the absolute tragedy of the matter but it was the people involved who were in the wrong.. I watched the report on Sky News on Sunday morning and they had a dog behaviourist on talking about it. He stuck his neck out to say that it was a shame the dogs were destroyed as it would have been better to have seen what it was that could have set the dogs off (probably under controlled and similar conditions - just guessing) and we could have learnt from that.

That's just it, we never get to know the circumstances that set these dogs off. The French woman, who had her face torn off by her pet is a prime example. That woman had overdosed and was dying.....her dog savaged her , when trying to wake her up. The dog saved her life.
