i think it was banned about 86.. i was caned at school a few times and it hurt like hell. when i see the behaviour of kids these days i think yes bring it back but then again id have a problem with someone hittin my children when i dont even hit them myself.

i say yes... i too was whacked a few times at school with a ruler over the knuckles or a black board rubber chucked at me. Through fear you gain respect... there is no fear for kids today... as they know no one can touch them.. so there`s no respect, they do exactly as they please. I never had to smack my son... i just had to look at him the wrong way and he`d behave.

In some cases yes bring it back. Although I cant see it happening as someone is bound to say in infringes human rights.

mmm I feel the same as micki when you see alot of the kids today you think it could help. Teachers are not allowed to be strict with the children anymore. Some parents will cause them so much grief for even telling their child off whih i feel is so wrong. Still i would have huge problem with someone hitting Ben.

yes i agreee with micki id go spare if someone hit callum but if he was really bad like hurt another child on purpose or done something real bad then id say do it I THINK i have to say callum does get a tap on the leg if he bad not really hard but enough to let him know i mean business and it could get harder if he does it again, alfie has started getting really out of control throwing things at me,and chucking things past month hes been real bad i have tapped his legs but he just laughs at me and then stamps his feet at me i think im going to have to introduce him to naughty step they use nowdays

when my son and niece and friends son were all small i used to somehow get them all dumped on me while the mothers went out. anyone who misbehaved had to stand facing the wall with their hands on their head. it worked and i didnt have to hit any of them

I am another who got the ruler on the hands. But I have learned that if there is no respect from the children to their parents how are they going to respect anyone. To teach a class room of children by fear achieve very little. Its a similar situation to how dogs are trained, I would rather have a dog which is a willing participant in training rather than a dog who is bullied into doing things.

We never ever hit our children and they have turn out swell. We had other ways of dealing with things like my son loved chocolate (still does) so he wasn't allowed any and my daughter loved her pocket money (didn't like spending it just counting it) Like wise I would never hit Herbie.

some people go just to far tho Kez. i always said to myself id never hit my children unless they were big enough to hit me back in defence. ive said to my eldest son a few times that if he was older we'd go into the garden and Rumble.. hope that never happens tho ;D
