I happen to have read a certain discussion about eating meat from a different forum. It was already quite sometime since I read it - probably last year.
Here's what they were talking about:
A member said that she finds it hypocritical for someone who eats meat (let's say chicken, pork and beef) to say that eating other types of meat (such as dog or cat meat) is disgusting and wrong. This member said that she feels like it's hypocritical because they're all meat, they are just the same. It just so happens that one may be accustomed to eating dog meat while some are not. I think she also mentioned that maybe it could be part of one's tradition to eat "unusual" types of meat.
*The member, if I remember correctly, is a vegetarian.
So, what do you think about this? Do you think that it is hypocritical?

Cows, chickens and pigs - and other such animals are bred for human consumption, whereas dogs, cats and their ilk are bred as pets, or working dogs.
I think it abhorrent to even think of eating a cat, or dog and I don't feel it hypocritical at all feeling like this!
Good post, Clair.
Take care.

i dont think its hypocritical. different countries have different cultures. what one person sees as food another could see as a pet. We dont eat horses in the UK but ive eaten horse meat and i really liked it. i think its all to do with how we view the animal.
theres a restaurant i know of that serves crocodile and i really want to try that.

There is something inside me that finds killing anything for food, fur or anything abhorrent. However I do realise I am a sensitive soul and I would probably find it hard to come up with plausible reasons to back up what my heart thinks. But it does lead on to another 'bug bear'. The amount of food wasted in supermarkets is enormous and meat is thrown out as garbage after it's sell by date. What right does a human have to breed and kill a living creature for no other reason than to waste it.

sorry to reply late, but personally i do think its hypocritical. if you are ok with killing a pig, there is no reason to be against killing dogs. certain people may not wish to eat a dog, and that is their choice, but i dont think that it would be any worse than eating any sort of meat if somebody did decide to eat a dog. personally, i do not eat any animals, and i also tend to avoid milk and eggs.

I agree it is hypocritical ... we'e been having this dicussion recently on another forum recently (about the whole lidl selling reindeer) and when in the UK we eat Roe or Red deer ... why can we then turn round and say "Oh but you cant eat a reigndeer!" ? It's all down to society really ... i do belive it's out society that breeds compassion not evolution ... in contries where there is not much in the way to vegitation to eat any animal is food and im sure they find it hypocritical how we pick and choose what animal is to be food. When my dad was in africa he ate, Zebra, Croc & Impala i believe. I've eaten Ostritch and Kangaroo ... if the animals been killed to eat then in sure not going to waste it.
I hae to agree my biggest bug bear also is when people toss food of any kind becasue it's gone past it's use by date. Most food is good well beyond that, they're only there to save the sellers skin.
