Although I work in a Convent and all the Sister's are Catholic, Im not religious.
When the Pope visited the Country last year it was obviously a very big deal to the Sister's at work. However the Sister's have never tried to convert me which is great and I resect their views and beliefs and vice versa.
I think that there has always been cover up's and corruption in religions.

Religion is also a direct & indirect cause of so much conflict and hatred in the world.

My Dad always said that religion caused more wars in the world since the beginning of time than anything else and I believe that to be true!

I agree with everyone! I have several stories I could share as to why I no longer believe, but that's not the point of this debate! My boss went to high school with a Priest from Spokane that was accused of molesting children, but never convicted. He now lives in Seattle in a development with lots of children. Because he is not a registered/convicted sex offender none of the people in the neighborhood knew about it. They do now thanks to the media. Last I heard they were trying to get him to move. It's shame that these people are getting away with it, and it's a shame the Pope tries to cover it up. But from what I have seen that is part of religion.

It's the world's biggest mistake as far as I'm concerned as far as i'm aware religion started innocently though to explain what at the time was unexplainable - how women got pregnant (at the earliest gods were mostly female as the female body was seen to create new life), how seasons changed, why there were so any different animals, and (in my opinion) to give some comfort to those who have something unchangable happen to them (family deaths, ect). the problem isn't with any one religion as far as conflict is concerned, it's with extremists who think only their religion is right and all others ar wrong. repeat crimes in religions maybe soe extremists or maybe envirnmental - it happened to the so they don't know better (though now that excuse is pointless). edit; opps, posting in an old thread.
