I think that there is a major problem with guns not only in America but in the UK too.

If a gun is purchased at a gun store there is a 2 week waiting period on a back ground check, plus the person must obtain a permit from the feds, through local law enforcement in their state, fingerprints and all. That all good, because I do believe we have the right to bears for protection, though I don't have a gun. I do know how to shoot,I shot my 1st gun at 4yrs old with my dad's help,he also taught us to respect the gun,and him by not touching it without him. He had a heavy hand that didn't give you a second chance to disobey,
The problem is the gun shows where their in town for a weekend usually combined with flea markets sale. Tons of people everywhere, buying guns on the spot and taking them that moment. I see that there is no control over who gets a gun. Permits can be stolen, forged ect. I did a couple of sale at the same time as the gun dealers selling my antique & collectibles, seeing people walk around with rifles freak me out.Esp. mass shootings going on, needless to say I don't do those sells anymore. The gun shows should be outlawed, also private owners should be required to sign a form agreeing to get approval from the local law to sell the gun to a approved buyer to transfer that gun. There is the blackmarket, hoods, gangs who will always have access to illegal guns.

I don't believe that guns should be available - there was a couple of shops in Glasgow had their trading licences revoked for selling weapons "under the counter" - others got their knuckles rapped for selling pellet guns to underage kids, after the outcry when a few youngsters had pellet guns fired at them and one of the wee boys nearly died. There are some people who want our police to be armed - I do not believe in that. If police carried guns - then we would see more guns being carried by the crims! I remember the outcry up here after the dreadful school. New laws were brought out and the ones complaining were from Rifle Clubs and Gun clubs! news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/march/13/newsid_2543000/2543277.stmGuns are too dangerous and in the wrong hands are fatal.

I agree with you Micki but the way this country is going we will be on a par with the USA regarding shooting and knife incidents.

there was someone that got stabbed on my mums street the other month.
When i was still living at my parents i was on the carpark this one morning having a fag and this bloke from one of the flats came out in a T-shirt and his pants (gross) and had a knife tucked into his socks. It was a biggish one aswell.
I agree with you Rose.
Im glad i dont have one otherwise i would have shot me neighbours by now lol.

The stabbings are getting out of control. A young man was walking along one of our main roads and got jumped by a gang of louts and ended up in intensive care. Not far from where he was stabbed, a couple stabbed a man to death. Time for heavier sentencing and make it hard labour - no frills in prisons, such as tv, cds etc.

oh God please dont let our police be armed. to many innocent people would be shot by them.my opinion of the average policeman isnt very high, about as high as their intelligence level. Please hope we never see them carryin guns openly.

The shotting of the brazilian guy in the tube station is a classic case of police officers shotting the wrong person.

Yes Micki I believe that to. I really do hope that our police are never allowed to carry guns
And yes Karan the shooting of the Brazilian guy is a good point they should have never shot to kill they didn't know for certain that he was a terriorist and I can invisage lots of this happening if the police were armed

Good idea Rose but where are they to go, all the prisons are so full Heaven knows where they could be put - our prisons are full - they should get ships that are no longer in use and tow them out to the middle of the ocean and keep some in there! It is getting difficult as our prisons, as you rightly say, are full to capacity. Perhaps instead of putting people behind bars for non-payment of fines and also for other small offences that may free up the prisons for the murderers, etc. No matter what - something needs to be done. We are getting to be a right unholy place to live! I still blame the lack of discipline both in the home and schools. Our judicial system needs to be brought into the 21st Century and get rid of some of the old fogey judges who can't see the wood for the trees. Everything is red tape, red tape and more red tape. The sentences as well for lesser crimes needs to be updated. Time for radical changes to be made!

I know that some people want the force to be armed - but I simply don't believe it would stop those who have guns already from carrying them. It would only make more gangsters carry them. We have special forces who carry guns and it should be left that way. Heaven forbit we ever see police carry weapons.
